What leaders need to know about trust building

Leaders need to hear this.
You can’t respond to somebody’s concern with “This is how it was actually your fault (or ‘responsibility,’ or however you want to translate that to corporate lingo)” and in the same breath tell them that they can come to you for help.
They DID come to you for help. That’s why you’re having this conversation. Unfortunately, you chose to penalize their bravery and vulnerability, instead of leading with genuine empathy and curiosity.
Trust is not a directive. It is built. It is earned. And it crumbles when you don’t walk the talk.
